This April marks 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare and will inevitably see an increase in tourists visiting Stratford-Upon-Avon, many of whom may well enjoy afternoon tea in Scholars tea room which was refitted NJF Commercial. This project saw the Old School House be magically transformed into a Harry Potter ‘Hogwarts’ style tea room, with individual rooms having an old school feel.

There were many elements to this project including a re-wire and the design, build and installation of a staircase. But it is upstairs where the magic really happened, especially the banquet hall which was partly exposed by extending and ‘cutting’ out of the existing timber beam rafters. The high ceiling had to be strengthened with additional beams and the original oak flooring was sanded, sealed and waxed. Unfortunately NJF couldn’t get the portraits to come alive though! It was quite a challenge to make sure it still passed structural and building control, whilst also pleasing the local parish council by being sympathetic to its historical significance.

NJF’s Commercial Manager, Simon Durrell said: “High-street rollouts are great core business, but we also enjoy the challenges of more varied projects. We are lucky enough to have the skills and expertise to work across a range of premises, from hotels to individual shops, cafes to tourist attractions. Scholars tea room is great example of us working closely with a proprietor to create something really special. It’s great to read that the interior of the tea room is highlighted in many visitor reviews.”
